Training Sheepdogs

Our Background

Milton grew up on his parents’ farm, where sheepwork was always done using dogs, at a time when most other farmers were using motorbikes and multiple people to shift their stock. The neighbours used to marvel as Milton’s dad and a couple of dogs walked mobs of sheep 10km to his other farm block, crossing two main roads and a ford. Three hours later, Milton would drive down and pick him up.

After working with family for a number of years, Milton began his own humble, mixed farming business. A few years later he finally met and married Kylie. More than 20 years and three amazing kids later, life is good.

He currently manages almost 1500 hectares, and runs around 2000 sheep, with the help of the family. Combining sheep and cropping means everything needs to be run efficiently, and the dogs are an integral part of making it all happen smoothly. To this day, much of the sheepwork done on the property is done with Milton and a dog or two. These days he is often joined by a very enthusiastic teenage daughter, with an obsession for dogs and sheep. The future of working sheep with dogs on the Andrina property is looking promising!
